Shredded Treats

January 2008

Unsurprisingly for a company dedicated to energy conservation, Hillserve has a comprehensive environmental policy. Sustainability plays a role in everything from choosing insulation materials to disposing of old printer cartridges.

When Ros Scott-Bates at Hillserve’s Bredbury office saw a letter in the local paper, she thought the company might be able to extend its environmental credentials even further.

The Thameside Rabbit & Guinea Pig Shelter urgently needed suitable bedding materials for its growing community of cute furry friends. Knowing how much paper Hillserve branches shred each month, Ros realised that the bags of waste paper could be put to good use as warm bedding for the animals.

Elaine Padley who runs the Shelter was delighted and now receives regular deliveries of shredded Hillserve paper. This waste paper helps Elaine keep the small abandoned animals warm before, hopefully, they are re-homed. Julie Hadfield, Hillserve’s Managing Director, was so impressed with Elaine’s efforts that Hillserve sponsored the shelter throughout 2007.
