Swinton United
OCTOBER 2009
It’s difficult to manage a premiership football team. It’s really difficult to manage an Under 9’s football team. The sulking, the tantrums and abusive language can all be hard for a volunteer manager to bear; parents really should know better.
Mike Thorpe manages his local Under 9’s football team, the mighty Swinton United. As well as making sure that 4-3-3 doesn’t become 1-1-8, Mike has to make sure that the team kit is ready, the changing facilities are clean, the half time snacks are nutritious and the mini-bus is fuelled. All of which takes money most amateur teams don’t have.
Knowing that Hillserve, where Mike works as a Cavity Wall Fitter, like to support their local community, he approached them for sponsorship. With one employee coaching the team and Jack, son of Warrington branch Depot Manager, David Fielding, playing for the team, Hillserve were happy to help out and are proudly supporting Swinton United in their campaign this season.
